Dimitri Payet to Manchester United is a story that appears to have started in England, yet it’s being picked up in France these days, with extra information being added along the way.
Le10 Sport in France dedicate a whole page to the potential transfer in their monthly magazine, and apparently, contact has already been made with the West Ham playmaker.
Very little needs to be said about how bad Slaven Bilic’s side have been this season, and while José Mourinho’s Manchester United haven’t quite lived up to expectations, they’ve fared considerably better, which is to be expected when looking at the gap in player quality between the two squads.
The Portuguese manager’s top target is apparently Antoine Griezmann, but considering a move for the Atlético Madrid star is impossible midway through the season, turning to Payet is the next step in Mourinho’s plans.
Wanting a player capable of both scoring and creating, the Special One is apparently ‘convinced’ that West Ham’s star has the ‘ideal profile’ for Manchester United, and has already been in contact with the player.
Yep, Le10 Sport report that, according to their own information, Mourinho has called Payet to let him know of his plans to buy him in January, as well as explaining to him where and how he wants to use him in his tactics.
As for the player, the prospect of joining Manchester United is obviously an enticing one, and, on paper, Payet is OK with it all.
The next step, however, is to convince West Ham to let him go, and that’s the difficult part, as selling their star player would simply further weaken a struggling side, and the only way this could happen is if the forward made it clear he wanted to leave.
Honestly, we’re not convinced by this at all, and judging by the track record of some of Le10’s bigger exclusives in the past, we’re going to say this probably won’t happen.
That Manchester United could be interested? Sure. Payet is a great player, but a January transfer? Nope.
