With Chris Smalling out until December and Evan Ndicka expected to head to the Africa Cup of Nations, AS Roma are looking at strengthening their defence this January to add more depth, and are looking at Chelsea for that.
Gazzetta dello Sport explain that two players have caught their eye ahead of the next transfer window, and those are Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr.
The newspaper point out that, unlike some other targets, negotiations to get them would be quite simple, seeing as neither of them have represented Chelsea this season.
To make it clear, Chalobah has been injured since August, which is why he has yet to play, but it’s fair to say that Sarr never really stood a chance since Mauricio Pochettino didn’t even know who he was when he took the job.
That hasn’t changed, with the 24-year-old firmly way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, while Chalobah is trying to come back from his fitness issues.
This is why Gazzetta reckon that a ‘loan would be possible’, even if they would have to ‘evaluate’ their potential performances for Roma, since they would be lacking in game time if they were to be signed.
Sarr has a contract with Chelsea until 2025, meaning he would be the ideal candidate for a future transfer if all goes well, while Chalobah is tied until 2028, suggesting he does have some sort of future at the Premier League side.
