Matteo Darmian hasn’t featured for a single minute so far under Jose Mourinho. The Manchester United boss prefers Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw over the Italian defender, who can play on either side of the defence.
So, could Darmian be leave the club before the Wednesday deadline for more regular playing time? Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport think there is a possibility, however small it may be.
Gazzetta report Inter’s interest in signing the former Torino defender. They believe Darmian could arrive at the Serie A club on loan, but to complete a deal they’d need ‘Mourinho’s assistance’.
Mourinho is likely to want to keep Darmian for Europa League and domestic cup games, at the very least, so despite the former Inter manager maintaining an excellent relationship with the the club, this may all be hoping for a little too much.
Inter are looking for a low cost defensive acquisition before the window closes on Wednesday, it’s unlikely to be Darmian unless Mourinho buys in a replacement.
