After being claimed as certain by the Portuguese press, Sandro’s deal with Sporting may have collapsed. An article in Tuesday’s edition of Jornal de Notícias says the midfielder is now further away from the Lisbon club.
The newspaper claims that Sandro’s agent Luiz Paulo Chignall was indeed in negotiations with Sporting, but they haven’t reached a deal. A source from the club told Jornal de Notícias the parties aren’t even in talks right now.
The problem would be the pay cut. Sporting have no way of affording Sandro’s current salary, and even though they wanted to compensate by offering him four years of contract instead of three, the midfielder still hasn’t accepted the offer.
Sporting reportedly would like to pay Sandro €1m net wages per season, plus €1.5m to QPR for the transfer.
The 27-year-old is said to be calm about the situation and a move to Sporting has not been ruled out yet. Sandro is waiting for other offers, since staying at QPR to play the Championship is not part of his plans.
