Arsenal may struggle financially to pull off a deal for Real Betis right-back Emerson this summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who cover the situation today and explain how the finances involved could stop the Gunners from making their move.
Estadio cover the recent claims around Emerson and how Arsenal and PSG are both considering a move for him in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners interest comes as a result of Hector Bellerín reportedly being told he can leave the Emirates, having fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.
He could end up at PSG, who already took an interest in him last summer and could secure his signature for a bargain price this time around.
Should he move to Paris, it would close the door for Emerson but open the door to Arsenal, who, according to reports in England, have the Betis man as their first option to strengthen the right-back spot.
The problem, say Estadio, ‘is in the money’. In order for Emerson to leave Betis, Barcelona will have to pay €9m for the rest of his rights.
If they wish to then make a profit on him, they would then have to find a club willing to pay €25-30m for the Brazilian, and Betis would take a percentage of that as well.
After a great season, Emerson’s value has risen to €25m at least, but in the current financial climate, that is a tough valuation for many clubs, Arsenal included, to reach.
The ‘coffers are exhausted’ for many, and how quickly some clubs seized on the idea of the Super League and the riches involved – again, Arsenal included – only helps to confirm that.
Of course, perhaps Arsenal are planning some big sales or financial manoeuvres to get their man, but at this point, at least as far as Estadio Deportivo are concerned, it’s hard to see it happening.
