We’re getting to that stage of the season when clubs must decide whether to try and permanently sign any of the loanees they had through the year.

Porto had many of those deals last summer, and one of them was Malang Sarr. The Chelsea defender landed in Portugal looking for minutes on the pitch, and that hasn’t been going according to plan.

Newspaper A Bola brings a piece today saying the 22-year-old will be back with the Blues at the end of the season.

They write that Sarr ‘could never affirm himself’ at Porto, neither as a central defender or as a fullback. He had a hard time getting a place in the team, and things got worse in a cup semifinal against Braga, where he made ‘primary mistakes’.

That’s why he’s been used in the B team lately, and as Porto don’t even have a buying option over him, there are no plans to negotiate a permanent transfer.

Sarr signed for Chelsea on a free move from Nice last summer and was immediately sent to Porto. Following his 19 appearances for the Dragons, he should now be back at Stamford Bridge, where he has a contract running until 2025.
