There will perhaps be nobody quite as chuffed as Barcelona and the Catalan media if Aston Villa finally seal a deal to sign Óscar Mingueza from Celtic Vigo in the coming days.
At the end of last week the Premier League club were very strongly linked with the fullback but in all honesty things have gone quieter since.
The media closest to Celta Vigo doesn’t appear to be in panic mode any longer about their local club losing a key player, and others are now being linked with Aston Villa instead.
However, the Catalan media and Barcelona insist it’s all still alive.
According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Monchi is in ‘advanced talks’ to secure Mingueza for Aston Villa. That would likely be a case of convincing the player, because Celta Vigo have been adamant he’ll only leave for his €20m clause.
Sport state Unai Emery will be ‘delighted’ if the deal is finalised, and so will Barcelona because they’re due to get €10m of the €20m if their former player moves.
And that’s the money they’re largely banking on to make a Marcus Rashford move financially possible.
