With Matteo Darmian’s contract with Manchester United expiring next summer, we can expect a big race to take the player back to Italy.

The likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan had already been much linked to the fullback this summer, and now it’s AS Roma who are added to the battle again.

Italian outlet Calcio Mercato has a story today claiming that Roma right-back Rick Karsdorp can’t convince manager Eusebio Di Francesco, and that’s why he was left out of the match-day squad for the Champions League game against Real Madrid, having to watch the match from the stands.

It means that club director Monchi should go for another player for the position next year, and Matteo Darmian is already on the list.

Calcio Mercato doesn’t really consider that Roma would sign Darmian as a free agent. They say he should be available ‘for a few million’ before his contract expires in the summer of 2019. That obviously means a January attempt, and the defender is said to be on Monchi’s list.

Darmian has only one appearance for Manchester United this season, which was in the opening Premier League match against Leicester City. This Wednesday, he’s seen 19-year-old Diogo Dalot being picked over him for the Champions League clash against Young Boys.
