Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has been grabbing the headlines in the Swedish media over the past few days, following claims the player could be heading to Southampton this summer.
There have been some reports in the British media the Leeds United star is being lined up to replace Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, and this has been filtering back to his home country.
In recent days several Swedish media outlets have covered reports Jansson could be heading to the Premier League with Southampton in the next window.
Today Fotbollskanalen are the latest to report on Jansson’s possible departure from Leeds United, with claims he could leave for 100m krona (£8.6m). They too link him with a move to Southampton, and as a possible replacement for Van Dijk.
Despite these reports first surfacing in the British press it has now become a big talking point in Sweden, and despite Jansson only committing himself to Leeds United a few months ago he could be set to leave in the next window.
Jansson has become something of a cult hero with the Elland Road faithful, and in February agreed to a three-year deal with Leeds United, following his successful loan spell.
The Southampton links have seemed weak but have still caught the Swedish imagination, showing how keen they are to see Jansson in the Premier League.
