Throughout this summer Everton have been linked with an ambitious move for Moise Kean, and lately, it seemed they might pull it off.
Various reports have them at the front of the queue for the highly-rated youngster, with talks progressing in their favour.
Gazzetta dello Sport update the situation today and explain why things aren’t progressing quite as quickly as Everton would hope.
First, they confirm that Juventus are looking to sell because they need to ‘thin out the attack’. This has been reported, with Kean alongside the likes of Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala on the sales list.
That’s when they bring Everton into the mix. Gazzetta say the Blues are in first place for Kean and they’ve already had contacts with the Bianconeri .
The asking price doesn’t seem to be an issue, more the fact that Juventus want to put a repurchase option into the deal. Gazzetta explain that it’s this point which caused the negotiation with Everton to ‘stall’.
There’s no information beyond that, but it’s easy to imagine that while Everton are happy to pay for Kean, they’re either uncomfortable with the existence of the buyback or the fee Juventus are proposing to get him back for.
It may be safe to assume it’s the latter given Juve’s desire to have that option is nothing new, and until the two sides can agree on a future price that suits them both, this potential deal is likely to rumble on.
