João Teixeira seems pretty happy to have returned to Portugal. After spending a year on short loans at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest, the player is now having a good time at Vitória de Setúbal.
The midfielder was interviewed by newspaper A Bola on Wednesday, and when speaking of the season he spent in England, he praised the experience, but showed relief for going back.
Asked if he regrets going to England so early, and his time at Wolves and Nottingham Forest, Teixeira said: “No. Maybe in the middle of last year, I should have left… but it’s past. I had the opportunity to have other experiences, completely different realities. It was my decision at the time and I enjoyed the experience. But returning was the best option. I needed to play.”
But despite the not so good memories, the player doesn’t rule out a return to the UK: “It’s something I wouldn’t mind. I liked being there. It is in fact a different world. We never know the future. All my strength lies in helping Vitória.”
Signed on a loan deal from Benfica in 2016, Teixeira even made 20 appearances for Wolves, but had his spell cancelled after the arrival of Paul Lambert at the club. That’s when he was sent to Nottingham Forest, but failed to make any appearances, and ended up returning to Portugal, where he has six games for Vitória so far.
Now with a Portuguese manager, maybe Teixeira would more enjoy a spell at Wolves. Would the fans take him back?
