Currently 12th in the Premier League after nine games, Brighton & Hove Albion have conceded just 10 goals so far this season, which is the same amount as Chelsea and two fewer than Arsenal.

And that’s after missing out on one of their summer targets, Stefano Denswil.

The Club Brugge defender, who came through at Ajax’s famed academy, even travelled for a medical ahead of his move to the Premier League side only to see it collapse at the last minute due to an injury in the Belgian team’s squad.

Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws about it, he said: “Of course it isn’t nice if you have to fly back with the knowledge the transfer won’t happen, but I immediately put it behind me. You saw me after the Brighton fuss, I even scored against Mouscron”.

After all, the Seagulls’ interest isn’t the first he’s had to deal with over the years, with the likes of AS Monaco and Hamburg in Germany already knocking on his door in the past, and he’s used to it all.

He continued: “A transfer doesn’t bother me. I’ve never let it affect me and always focused on Club Brugge. If you continue to do your best, there are always new opportunities”.

Whether Brighton and Chris Hughton return for a new attempt in January or next summer remains to be seen, but Denswil certainly won’t be losing sleep over it if they don’t.

He said: “My attitude has always been ‘let the clubs come to me first’, and if that doesn’t work, I’ll just stay. I’m certainly not saying I have to leave, or going to pull a sickie, which I could have done the year after we won the league and Monaco came knocking”.

If the Seagulls do want him at the AMEX Community Stadium, then they’ll have to go get him.
