Newcastle United midfielder Siem de Jong has told the Dutch media he wants to return to the club in the summer. The Netherlands international is currently on loan with PSV for the season.
SoccerNews have reported on comments De Jong made when asked about his future. The attacking midfielder said he will like to return to Newcastle United to fight for his place, given they are likely to be playing in the Premier League next season. De Jong also confirmed Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has kept contact to check on his progress.
“I would like to go back to Newcastle United, it’s a great club, especially when they play in the Premier League. I hope there are opportunities and I want also to fight for a place. But hopefully I can in preparation for the new season. The coach occasionally sends a text message to me. It’s nice that he does. I follow them closely,” said the Newcastle United loanee.
De Jong joined Newcastle United in 2014, but has only played 22 league games for the club due to injury. The 27-year-old was sent out on loan by Benitez to get more playing time at PSV, but due to injury his appearances have been limited. It’s unlikely PSV will make the move permanent and a return to Newcastle United in the summer looks on the cards.
