Everton and Marseille are in the race to sign FC Midtjylland’s Emiliano Martínez in the next window, according to Uruguayan journalist Rodri Vázquez.

The 23-year-old initially joined Midtjylland on loan last summer before his stay there was made permanent in November 2022. He made 31 appearances in his first season for the Danish club.

His displays have ‘aroused interest’ from European clubs, including Everton and Marseille.

The journalist further explains that the defensive midfielder has received ‘firm offers’ from the Toffees and the French club. The details of the proposals aren’t mentioned and also the club currently leading the race to sign him.

Martínez’s deal at Midtjylland is until 2027 but Vázquez claims ‘it’s almost a fact’ that he’ll change clubs in the summer. Whether he’ll end up at the Merseyside club, Marseille or another team remains to be seen.

Everton were successful in avoiding relegation for the second year in a row. If Vázquez’s report is to be believed, it seems like Sean Dyche’s side have already started planning to reshape the squad at his disposal for next season.
