On Friday, we covered news from Gazzetta dello Sport saying the transfer of Atalanta’s Marten de Roon to Middlesbrough was happening, just a little bit slower than expected.
According to the local English press at the beginning of last week, the transfer was set to be done before the weekend, but that wasn’t the case come Friday.
This could have been a cause for panic, but Gazzetta took it upon themselves to reassure Middlesbrough fans by saying the deal would happen on Monday, and there’s further confirmation of this… on Monday.
According to L’Eco di Bergamo, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, today will be the day De Roon says his goodbyes to the Serie A side as he makes his way to the north of England to sign for Boro.
All that is needed is the formal agreement between the two clubs to be made official, and the player will be playing at the Riverside next season.
This should come either on Monday afternoon, or on Tuesday at the very latest, with the player signing a four-year contract to keep him at Middlesbrough until 2020.
