Middlesbrough goalkeeper Victor Valdés is set to be indicted in Spain due to an alleged fraud dating all the way back to 2011.
The former Barcelona and Manchester United player was named as one of those investigated in a big Spanish inquiry into false documents for boats and yachts. Judge Maria Isabel Rodriguez has closed the initial investigation and decided to prosecute 81 people, Valdes being one of them.
According to La Provincia, Victor Valdes didn’t take any lessons but managed to get his licence in the Basque Country with another man using his documents during the exams.
The report claims that footballers, actors and other celebrities paid between €2k and €3k for the process. In total, 81 people are being accused of having fake licences for their boats, and it’s understandably causing quite a splash in Spain.
As the investigation has just ended, the Spanish court are now working to communicate to all parties involved before starting the next part of the process.
