Rafa Silva has a career surrounded by transfer rumours.
In his years at Braga, the midfielder used to be linked to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United. After his move to Benfica, clubs like Everton and Leicester City were said to be interested. Then it were Wolverhampton. And now, Middlesbrough.
It’s the English press who has been claiming that the Championship side would be considering to sign him this summer.
As the transfer window is closed, the player would only be able to arrive on a loan spell, even if the clubs have to include an obligatory buying clause in the deal.
Now we’ve been following this story in the past few days, and the Portuguese press has nothing to say about Middlesbrough. They are watching the rumour as well, but despite covering, they don’t have anything to add.
This Tuesday, O Jogo covers the claims, and the only thing they’ve actually heard is that some German clubs are interested in the mifielder as well.
They don’t say if the clubs are from Bundesliga 1 or 2. They don’t know if these sides want a loan or a permanent deal. They just claim that there’s some interest from the country.
So it’s impossible to know how Middlesbrough would stand in the race for now. Depending on the German club who want Rafa, going to the Championship could still be a better deal, as this is a path that has been working for Portuguese players lately.
But for now, everyone seems to be in the dark.
