Today is just another to check the the Mexican press and see someone encouraging Raúl Jiménez to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The news linking the striker to the likes of Juventus and Manchester United often gets big coverage in his home country, with local personalities all giving their opinion on his future.
This time it was the Mexican national team manager Tata Martinez who spoke about it. The coach was interviewed by Futbol Picante on ESPN, and claimed that Old Trafford would be a better destination for him.
“Looking at it from the outside today I can’t see a number nine like Raúl at United.
“There are a lot of forwards, like Rashford, Martial and the boy who now plays on the right wing, Greenwood, but since Romelu Lukaku left, I don’t see a pure number nine like Raúl.
“At Juventus he’ll have more trouble earning a place, because Ronaldo shares the inside of the field with whoever plays alongside him, be it Dybala or Higuain, so he may have a tougher fight there.”
Raúl Jiménez is currently Mexico’s biggest star, and therefore it’s understandable they get so excited with rumours about this future. The consensus in the local media is that he could play for a club with bigger aspirations than Wolves.
Tata Martino, who’s managed Barcelona in the past, claimed that the player must think of his family’s wellbeing before accepting any offers.
“For me, that at one point in my life I was at a very big club, and after having lived a difficult year there, I say that you have to be convinced of the step you want to take and you have to analyse everything from different perspectives. And he has elements to analyse it because, although he hasn’t been at Manchester United, he was at Atlético Madrid and Benfica. And he has elements to balance and decide what he wants from his life.
“Maybe he wants a bigger challenge because he feels he is in good shape and he has to take advantage of it, maybe he wants to stay in this place, maybe the options he reads about are not real and do not exist. I think the best thing is for Raúl to take the decision based on the analysis he makes and with the consensus of his family because, when it comes to enjoying things, not only does the player suffer and enjoy, but the family also does.”
