Let’s have a little recap on Pepe Reina’s Thursday.

In the morning it was reported in Italy there were a couple of things standing in the way of the goalkeeper moving to Aston Villa, who was said to already have an agreement with.

There’d been talk of a pay-off regarding the final six months of his AC Milan contract, although the player could solve that issue himself by not asking. Then there was the Rossoneri’s need to bring in a replacement for Reina before letting him go.

Manuel Garcia Quilon, the 37 year old’s agent, was photographed on Thursday morning going into ‘Casa Milan’, the club’s headquarters. In the afternoon, Reina was photographed at The Westin Palace Hotel in Milan, where he’d been speaking to that agent.

Quilon then returned for more Milan meetings, and Calciomercato now report he wasn’t able to agree a deal.

That doesn’t mean the move to Aston Villa is dead, and there’ll be further meetings in the ‘next few hours’ to try and sort everything out.

Reina is continuing to ask for a ‘small severance pay’, and Milan are working on a replacement, with Emiliano Viviano being the main option, and Marco Sportiello another possibility.
