Leeds United fans may remember that back in 2016, when Massimo Cellino was still very much at the club, there were reports suggesting Diego Lopez could arrive at Elland Road as manager.
Lopez had worked with Cellino at Cagliari, but it hadn’t all gone swimmingly. The former Leeds United owned sacked Lopez, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t rate the manager.
With Cellino going through coaches so quickly he’s earned his ‘Manager Eater’ nickname, he uses some of them several times, somehow staying on good terms despite turfing them out often more than once.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Cellino was asked, out of the many managers he’s worked with, which ones he’s closest to: “Who do I feel most attached to? With Allegri I often speak, we talk about everything, not necessarily football. I have fewer contacts with Diego, but we could have met again. I would have taken him to Leeds, but he does not speak English.”
Leeds United fans would probably have preferred Cellino made a move for Massimo Allegri, but after he was surprisingly sacked by Cellino, despite a good season at Cagliari, he went on to AC Milan and Juventus.
