Whilst Massimo Cellino’s time in charge of Leeds United may not have been a successful period, it was certainly entertaining.
The Italian businessman was never far away from drama, and it followed him throughout his time at Elland Road. Already dubbed the ‘manager eater’ from his time as owner as Cagliari, Cellino continued the same path with Leeds United.
Once he sold the club to Andrea Radrizzani he bought Brescia and started to fall out with the authorities there over various business initiatives in the area. He also continued the hiring and firing, sometimes rehiring people he’d already removed from their duties and had kept on gardening leave.
Cellino has been occupied by multiple court cases in Italy and it looks like he’s got a huge one ahead of him, after Brescia’s Public Prosecutor requested a local court to agree more than €55m worth of his assets could be seized.
Il Giorno say ‘the violations are of a criminal-tax nature’ but it’s made clear the investigation isn’t complete, let along any judgement.
The Guardia di Finanza have put out a statement saying: ‘The provision in question was issued on the basis of the evidence acquired during the preliminary investigation phase, therefore, pending definitive judgment, there is the presumption of innocence.’
Massimo Cellino himself has express his ‘shock’ at the decision.
