Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey were the two players heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the last summer transfer window.
The Gunners were successful in taking Partey from Atlético Madrid on deadline day, while the France international ended up staying at Lyon.
L’Equipe explained in November the 22-year-old was left frustrated with the north London club’s ‘too timid’ attempt to acquire his services.
Despite last summer’s failure, it was reported Mikel Arteta’s side are still in the picture for the France international. Juventus, who were named as a suitor before the start of the season, are still believed to be interested in the midfielder.
Italian journalist and market expert Luca Momblano has provided a fresh update on this case during JB Live’s program, Boom Boom Mercato, relayed by Calciomercato.it.
He claims Aouar will not be moving to the Premier League and only wants to join the Serie A side.
“Paratici has everything in his hand: the agreement has been made with the player for 7-8 months,” Momblano said.
“The player bounced Arsenal after a long courtship in September, trusting that the move to Juventus could still be evaluated.”
“There is a promise from [Lyon president Jean-Michel] Aulas to Aouar, in the wake of that made to Depay to let him leave for free, to soften the position regarding requests for the fee.”
Aouar has six goals and four assists in 26 matches in all competitions for Lyon this season.
