Thomas Tuchel faces the biggest test of his Chelsea period so far on Tuesday evening as the Blues face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
The German manager finds himself fortunate to be facing a Diego Simeone side which is having something of a wobble. Despite being top of La Liga, Atleti have got only one point out of two matches Levante in the past week.
In the Spanish media, it’s been explained the squad are struggling, tired due to overloading and making up for absences. Atletico have been hit more than most clubs by Covid-19 isolations.
Tuesday’s edition of L’Equipe looks at Tuchel’s reign at Chelsea and how he’ll try to approach it with less of a political slant than at PSG.
They state his image of a nice guy already started to slip at the weekend, and the German knows what he needs to do to impress those in charge at Stamford Bridge.
L’Equipe state Marina Granovskaia has a plan, and that’s to make the most out of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, and Tuchel ‘will be forced’ to go along with this.
That could see the German pair be given the weight of chances, even if they’re not always the best option on the day.
