Real Madrid have missed the Marcos Alonso boat, report Marca on Tuesday. The Spanish club were considering signing Alonso during the last summer transfer window, but they decided to instead give Fabio Coentrao another season with them.
It didn’t work out for Madrid and Coentrao has been something of an outcast at the club, struggling repeatedly with injury and fitness. Now they’d quite like to sign Alonso to replace Coentrao, but have to concede they’ve missed their chance.
It would have been relatively easy for Madrid to sign Alonso from Fiorentina, but it’s a different scenario altogether now he’s at Chelsea.
Alonso has proven himself to be a crucial signing for Antonio Conte, and Marca believe a transfer would be almost impossible.
Therefore, Real Madrid have conceded defeat and will look at other transfer possibilities, wistfully looking towards Chelsea and pondering what may have been had they had the courage of their convictions.
