Even though Manchester United were many times said to be the main contenders to sign Diogo Costa from Porto, it’s been a while since the Portuguese media last came with a strong story about the Red Devils’ pursuit.

That chase, however, gets an interesting mention in a piece from Record today.

The newspaper features a story which is about claims from the English press saying Chelsea are now interested in buying Diogo Costa.

Record then recall the links with Manchester United, saying the Red Devils were ‘always candidates’ to sign the goalkeeper.

The problem is that there’s no final decision on the future of David De Gea, and the ‘market surveys’ from them for Costa had a ‘limit’ of £30m.

Since the Porto star is protected by a €75m release clause, that would be Manchester United willing to pay nearly half of the price demanded by Porto.

According to Record, Chelsea’s interest in Costa could ‘shake up’ the Red Devils’ pursuit. The chase from Erik ten Hag’s side was said to be ‘stagnant’, and the competition should convince them to hurry up.
