The Swedish sport media are currently falling over themselves to make sense of what Expressen call a transfer ‘bomb’.
Aftonbladet and all the country’s major sport outlets are covering the potential loan move of Andreas Granqvist to Jose Mourinho’s side.
It’s FotbollDirekt who have started the claims, and also managed to get a few words from the player about the potential move.
Granqvist is 33 years of age and signed for Helsingborg in the summer, in a deal that was agreed earlier in the year. It was something of a homecoming for the veteran defender who first came through to professional football at the club.
FotbollDirekt report that ‘several secure sources’ have revealed that Granqvist is an option for Manchester United in the winter window. Given they’re speaking to the Sweden international, it could be assumed he’s one of the sources.
A move would be similar to how the English club loaned Henrik Larsson in 2007.
Granqvist is quoted as saying: “I know that there is a lot of interest for me. United is incredibly flattering but I have not heard anything concrete yet.”
The report, and the player himself, also talks of interest from Russian clubs in the defender.
