Jose Mourinho is getting a good kicking in the Spanish media this week.
The Manchester United manager made himself a lot of enemies whilst in charge of Real Madrid, and the loss to Sevilla was always going to see him criticised.
But the manner of the loss, added to Mourinho’s comments afterwards, and being rude to the Spanish media in his post match press conference, have all served to to make things worse than they would have otherwise been.
Some in Spain are already edging Mourinho out of Manchester United, and Don Balon weren’t going to find themselves left out.
The Spanish website, of very questionable reliability, believe Manchester United’s board have already identified their choice to replace Mourinho, and it’s Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.
Those in charge at the Premier League club are said to see Simeone as the ‘ideal coach’ to take over from Mourinho and achieve success at Old Trafford.
But it doesn’t make a great deal of sense. If it’s Mourinho’s playing style which is annoying the club then Simeone wouldn’t exactly be a breath of fresh air.
Atletico are known for keeping big games as tight as possible and planning to make it hard for the opposition, so targeting Simeone is somewhat hard to believe.
Jose Mourinho, the man who told Manchester United: You’re not really all that.
Expectation management takes preference over actual club management.
