Even though several English clubs are used to scouting home matches of Benfica, Porto and Sporting, few of them do the same when those side play away games.

Manchester United have been frequent visitors at Portuguese stadiums for the past few years, and it was no different on Sunday, as scouts from the club watched Benfica’s win at Vizela.

It’s newspaper O Jogo who reports the visit from the Red Devils, claiming they were the only Premier League side at the stadium. They were followed by Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Tenerife, Bayer Leverkysen, PSV, Rennes and Pogon.

The outlet says these clubs were there to follow the match and ‘eventually, update the file on future targets of the market’.

Manchester United have recently been linked to one Benfica player, which is Darwin Nunez.

The striker couldn’t shine in this game, despite his two attempts on target, and ended up being subbed off.

The only Benfica player who actually deserved compliments from the local media was Rafa Silva, who led their offensive sector and managed to score a late winner.

Even though there was definitely not a lot for the Red Devils official to see, those reports will certainly count at the time the club sit and decide who their market targets will be.
