Some Manchester United fans may remember that, a few months ago, the club were said to have reached an agreement for the transfer of Umaro Embalo from Benfica.
But despite the initial excitement, the news was quickly dismissed, with the youngster’s agent confirming talks, but claiming that there was no deal so far.
Things went silent for a period, with regular reports from Germany claiming that it was actually RB Leipzig in front in the race, getting close to a deal with Benfica.
And today, newspaper A Bola brings a whole story about the situation, showing where each club stand and why José Mourinho’s side are unlikely to sign the player.
Barcelona are said to be one of the interested clubs, but as they haven’t shared how much they’d pay yet, A Bola can’t take their interest very seriously.
Manchester United, on the other hand, have shown their intentions, but it wasn’t enough. The Red Devils claimed they won’t pay more than €5m to sign a 16-year-old, and that isn’t near enough the figures demanded by Benfica.
The Eagles are currently demanding €15m, and the club getting closer to it is RB Leipzig. They have offered €10m, and continue to negotiate.
So it seems that for now, there’s no chance that José Mourinho’s side can land Umaro Embalo. Unless they wait for him to get older and become the real deal, and then he will be worth the money.
