Saturday’s edition of L’Equipe has a feature on big transfers which could be in the offing for next summer, and naturally Paul Pogba gets a mention.
The Manchester United player has been the subject of increased speculation since his agent, Mino Raiola, made it clear the midfielder wants to leave Old Trafford.
Pogba has a contract lasting until the end of June 2022, and that puts the Premier League club under some pressure. With a renewal unlikely, a summer transfer is the best option for all involved, yet it’s the destination which is under question.
L’Equipe suggest that given Raiola’s interview was with Tuttosport, a Turin sport newspaper, that could point to him trying to build a transfer to Juventus. However, it’s stated Manchester United have to be ‘wary’ about transfer ‘clues’ coming from the agent.
According to the French newspaper, Real Madrid remains the desire of Pogba, yet the media closest to the Spanish club certainly haven’t been talking up a move there recently.
This is where the problems could arise for Pogba, Raiola and Manchester United. With finances in football tight, a move will be difficult to fund in the coming windows, so creativity is likely to be needed.
L’Equipe don’t mention it this time, but PSG have been linked several times. They face their own problems with contracts ending in 2022, with both Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in that situation.
That lends itself to inevitable future rumours involving the PSG pair and Pogba.
