Manchester United have shifted their focus on signing a new centre-back after agreeing a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho.

Real Madrid’s Raphaël Varane remains a priority target for the Red Devils.

Earlier today, we carried a report from AS, who explained United are making a ‘final offensive’ for the 28-year-old.

AS suggested the France international may consider staying in Madrid, if Carlo Ancelotti convinces him to stay and Los Blancos make an effort by offering an improved contract.

The defender is now in his final year of contract and it’s still not clear whether he will sign an extension or make a switch elsewhere.

According to La Razón, the centre-back’s future ‘will have to be resolved in the coming weeks’, and if he decides not to renew his contract, the player would then ‘seek to be transferred to Manchester’.

United, for their part, ‘want to force’ Real Madrid to sell Varane for €50m this summer, and if he’s sold, Los Blancos plan to replace him with Jules Koundé.

However, the €50m from Varane’s sale wouldn’t be sufficient to convince Sevilla and Real Madrid would be willing to include Isco as part of the deal to sign Koundé.

To sum it up, Real Madrid have identified Koundé as Varane’s successor if the latter doesn’t sign a new deal. The former Lens man would ‘seek’ a transfer to United, if he decides to leave the Bernabéu.
