Nuno Tavares is set to become an Arsenal player in the coming days, despite late attempts from Brighton & Hove Albion to snatch the player away from their Premier League rivals.

The Portuguese press today reported that Tavares had a medical in Lisbon on Thursday, to try and work through Covid-19 rules in the best way possible.

When he lands in England, which is expected to happen today, he will go straight into quarantine.

Arsenal are paying an €8m flat fee to Benfica plus a further €2m in possible bonus payments. A Bola reports Brighton made a late attempt this week, offering similar to what the Gunners had put forward.

Unfortunately for the Seagulls, who it’s explained have been following Tavares for quite some time, the offer they made to the player was inferior to that from Mikel Arteta’s side.

Therefore, given the better financial deal and the attraction of joining Arsenal, Tavares wasn’t tempted to ditch that opportunity for Brighton.
