When the Catalan media started the Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United rumour, it was clear from the off that Barcelona wouldn’t be completely against a sale.
Sure, the cub didn’t want to look like they’d effectively put the Dutchman up for sale, but if someone arrived with a good enough offer, with €70m being the initial figure used, then they’d agree to a transfer.
De Jong hasn’t been a failure since moving to the Camp Nou from Ajax, but he hasn’t been the game changer the club thought they were buying, hence the openness to parting ways.
It was also made clear that the player himself wasn’t too keen on a move, liking his life playing for Barcelona and in the city generally.
Mundo Deportivo take a look at the situation, and state Manchester United are ‘using all their weapons’ to try and convince the midfielder.
He was initially reluctant, for various reasons, and whilst he’s still a long way from saying yes, there’s a suggestion he’s not quite as against the move as he was to begin with.
Mundo repeat that Barcelona are open to a sale, and it’s explained Erik ten Hag has made several calls to De Jong to try and push things along.
As it stands, the player isn’t keen… although he’s not as reluctant as he initially was.
