Manchester United continue to get named as one of the contenders for the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Tottenham Hotspur.

It’s in Italy that most news on the midfielder’s future is coming from, as Juventus are said to be very much interested in his signing.

Corriere Dello Sport today features a piece about the tough challenge the Bianconeri face to achieve this transfer, and they mention Manchester United as one of the challengers.

It’s claimed that Atletico Madrid and the Red Devils are two other clubs who ‘like’ Hojbjerg, who has a price tag worth €30m.

That’s a problem for Juventus, because their plan was to sign the midfielder on loan, and it could see them losing out to clubs who’d try a permanent deal, which is Tottenham’s preference.

Corriere Dello Sport writes that the Old Lady’s finances ‘aren’t rosy at the moment’, so it’d be hard for them to compete if the race is real. That’s especially the case because Spurs would only accept a loan if it includes an obligation to buy.

What makes us wonder is why Manchester United would go after Hojbjerg in January, as Sofyan Amrabat has just started playing, and their squad seems full of midfielders available for Erik ten Hag.

It means we’ll take this with a pinch of salt for the time being, even if Hojbjerg’s future appears likely to be a hot topic for months to come.
