Manchester United have ‘started official attempts’ for the signing of Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, according to reports.

CNN Turk today writes there’s a formal offer the Red Devils to land the 25-year-old.

A good reason why Manchester United seem to be after Bayindir is that he has a low release clause, worth just €6m, in his contract with Fenerbahce which runs until 2027.

The news, brought by journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, doesn’t make it sound Erik ten Hag’s side are aggressively triggering that clause, as they’re said to be in talks with the Turkish side for the move.

Manchester United may have already spent €52.5m on the signing of André Onana from Inter Milan this summer, but it was many times reported that the Red Devils’ boss wants a backup option for him in the squad.

The club recently lost David De Gea, who walked from Old Trafford following the end of his contract, and Dean Henderson is also likely to get negotiated in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Bayindir has been playing for Fenerbahce since 2019, and has five caps for the Turkish national team.

It had previously been reported by the Turkish media that he rejected Manchester United as he wasn’t willing to be a number two, but we’ll see if that stance will stand.
