Manchester United are making a ‘final proposal’ for the signing of Frenkie de Jong, according to the latest claims from the Catalan media.

Sport today writes that the Red Devils are ‘willing to put’ €60m on the table, plus €20m in performance bonuses, and have already told Barcelona that.

The outlet acknowledges this would be a ‘great first succulent offer’. However, they point out it may still not be enough to convince the Camp Nou side.

It’s said Barcelona demand €80m paid in full, not depending on any variables. The La Liga giants ‘want to make it clear’ they do not intend to ‘undersell’ any of their players.

Manchester United and Barcelona have undoubtedly talked about De Jong for a while, and Sport claims this would be the opening official bid, which makes it kind of confusing when also naming it the ‘final proposal’.

But what they try to explain is the difference between informal and formal offers. Either way, they claim this is the ‘first stage of an operation’ that both clubs expect to succeed.

Despite all those claims about Barça playing hard ball in the talks, Sport still writes that the Red Devils are ‘above the rest’ when it comes to the competition for the midfielder, claiming ‘all roads seem to lead’ him to Old Trafford this summer.
