For months there’s been endless articles linking Ander Herrera, Daley Blind and Juan Mata with Manchester United exits.

Mata would go back to Valencia, Herrera to Spain or Italy, and Blind would move to Barcelona. Every now and again an article would pop up explaining how one of them isn’t in Jose Mourinho’s plans and could be signed for free when their contract ended in June.

But Manchester United held options on each one to extend by a further year, it wasn’t a secret. The Premier League club were hardly likely to let a player go for nothing when they can get something, regardless of whether Mourinho wants them or not.

And, according to Calciomercato, AC Milan have just realised this, and that Herrera’s extension, along with the others, has been activated.

It’s stated the Serie A side have been evaluating the potential transfer for months but Manchester United extending the deal ‘blew up the plans’ of Milan.

The Rossoneri are interested, but not quite so interested now they know Herrera wouldn’t be free. In all those months of evaluating, one may have thought Milan would have found out about the extension possibility.
