Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira is reportedly losing patience with the time that Victor Lindelof’s transfer to Manchester United is taking.
The player has already missed two cup matches since his return from his Christmas vacations, and according to O Jogo today, he’ll be called up to play on Saturday in case the deal doesn’t go through before tomorrow.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that the transfer has a deadline. It’s just that Benfica don’t want to keep the defender out of important league games while the deal keeps taking more time than expected.
The newspaper insists that the clubs have an agreement, which is a fee of €50m, with Lindelof making €3.5m per season after he signs a contract at the Old Trafford club.
The reason for the delay are said to be bureaucratic issues, including the player’s renewal which will raise his release clause from €30m to €60m before he gets sold.
There’s still confidence in the idea of a deal, and in Sweden it was reported this week that Lindelof has been put in a difficult situation regarding payments to his previous club.

Even if Manchester United are still genuinely interested then there surely has to be a chance they’d walk away, given the mess it’s turned into. With a fee rising to €50m, from what should really be €30m, and contract renewals to push Lindelof’s previous club out, it’s all a bit of a murky mess.
