Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is having surgery next week, the Argentine media reports.
After confirming on Friday morning that the centre-back had a fifth metatarsal fracture, ESPN journalist Esteban Edul now shares new updates on this situation.
His first report had claimed Manchester United were still to decide whether Martinez would wait for the bone to heal or send him for surgery.
Now it’s claimed that the defender is indeed having an operation, and that’s set to take place on Monday.
Lisandro Martínez was injured on Thursday evening, during the Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla, in a solo play, and a couple of players from the La Liga side carried him off the pitch.
It’s not yet known how long it will take until the defender returns to the pitch, but judging by the average recovery time for metatarsal injuries, it’s likely he’ll sit out for the rest of the season.
Manchester United play the final fixture of the Premier League on the 28th of May, although they could still reach the finals of the FA Cup and the Europa League.
