The current international break is quickly turning into something of a farce.
Footballers at top clubs around Europe are picking up muscle injuries and it’s thought that’s at least partly down to the condensed season. Then there’s the added Covid-19 worries, with positive tests still being reported around world football, and quarantine issues causing further problems.
The Swedish FA have announced that five players from the Premier League and Scottish Premiership won’t be joining up with the country’s latest squad, and among them is Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof.
New UK quarantine rules impact Denmark and with Sweden playing a friendly against their neighbours, it means Lindelof and others would then have to quarantine on their return to their clubs.
Denmark has found a new strain of Covid-19 which is thought to have originated from a mink farm, and that’s seen other countries take action to avoid the strain spreading to their shores.
For Lindelof it may be a blessing, with it being reported repeatedly in Sweden that the Manchester United player needs a rest. His recent injury issues have been seen as a clear sign of that.
There’s no clarity from the Swedish FA, but the insinuation is Lindelof and others can then join up for the next matches.
