Anthony Martial’s agent has revealed his client wants to leave Manchester United and the forward has also informed Ralf Rangnick about his intention to make a move elsewhere in the winter market.

The Red Devils’ interim manager, however, made it clear to the 26-year-old that he will continue at the club, if they don’t receive an offer for him.

Sevilla are credited with an interest in Martial and their need to bolster their attack increased after Morocco included Youssef En-Nesyri and Munir El Haddadi for the Africa Cup of Nations, and Erik Lamela and Suso were sidelined with long-term injuries.

ABC Sevilla state the uncertainty around AFCON [due to outbreak of Omicron variant] will not change the Spanish club’s plans to bring in an attacker next month. Martial is their ‘desired option’ and the negotiations will be focused on lowering his salary.

They relay comments made by the France international’s agent and Rangnick, and then add ‘this is a chess board in which everyone moves their pieces’.

Martial and his agents have already ‘taken the step forward’ by asking United to let him leave in January, but it will not be easy for him to end up in Andalusia.

He earns €10.5m per year and a loan deal until the end of the season would cost Sevilla around €5m, as long as the English club don’t demand a fee for the temporary transfer.

Apart from Sevilla, there will be more candidates to take the player, ‘such as Newcastle United’, who are looking to bolster their squad next month to avoid relegation. ABC Sevilla say Martial ‘will have a lot to say’ on where he could end up.
