Paul Pogba remains determined to move to Real Madrid but is waiting for the cub to make their move for him.
The Manchester United midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu last summer, with months of speculation about a potential switch.
That never happened and he stayed in Manchester, although this season has proven to be a disappointing and frustrating one for them both.
Pogba has spent most of the season on the touchline, with several injuries limiting him to just eight appearances all season.
It had been suggested that Manchester United’s recent upturn in form had led the Frenchman to reconsider his future at the club, although a recent report indicated this is a ploy from himself and agent Mino Raiola.
Marca go some way to backing that up today, saying ‘Pogba’s desire has not changed’ and he has told Manchester United’s leaders he wants to leave.
He also ‘does not hide’ that his favourite destination is Real Madrid.
Negotiations with United ‘were ongoing’ last summer, say Marca, but Madrid never took the final step as, although Zidane was pressing for the signing, they waited as his wages and their failure to sell big players proved to be an ‘obstacle’.
They are less likely to take that step this season, with the emergence of Fede Valverde and the potential return of Martin Odegaard making Pogba less of a ‘sporting necessity’.
Nonetheless, Pogba remains the man that Zidane has long wanted, and the midfielder is ‘waiting for a gesture’ from his compatriot before pushing for a move.
