Manchester United had an official present to watch Bologna’s win over Atalanta on Sunday, something that ‘didn’t go unnoticed’ as the race for Joshua Zirkzee heats up.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the striker chose the right game in which to shine given who was watching from the stands.
The newspaper explains that the market around Zirkzee is heating up and was raised by another few degrees over the weekend as he hit double figures with his penalty against Atalanta.
His ten goals are acting as a ‘calling card’ to sides around Europe and the Premier League is keeping a particularly close eye on him.
Bologna are rubbing their hands as they eye up a huge profit on a player who cost just €8.5m two years ago but is now valued at around €60m. Even if nobody pays that sum, they could sell him back to Bayern Munich for €40m so there is profit to be made either way.
Whether Manchester United are willing to pay €60m remains to be seen but the hype is building and the presence of an official on Sunday has only added to it.
What should be noted is that just yesterday it was claimed Zirkzee could cost €80m, so that price point is fluctuating by the day and the hype around him is a little bit wild at this point.
Thus it would be wise to take things with a pinch of salt for now, with it clear there’s work being done to push the striker’s price up, even if his performances on the pitch are helping that anyway.
