On Wednesday, we covered claims from Portugal which stated Manchester United had sent an official to the Taca da Liga match between Sporting CP and FC Porto.

The Red Devils were one of a number of Premier League clubs thought to be transfer window-shopping at the Lisbon match, although it was hard to pin down who they were watching.

Thursday’s edition of O Jogo reports Manchester United continued their scouting into Wednesday and to the Taca da Liga match between SL Benfica and SC Braga.

Benfica, the home team, easily won 3-0 and two players stood out.

One of those will have been very much of interest to the Manchester United scout and the other one very much not… for obvious reasons.

O Jogo rated two players at 8/10, the first was Angel Di Maria who scored two goals, but we can obviously forget about him. The second was Alvaro Carreras, who found the back of the net from left-back.

Carreras completed a permanent move from Manchester United to Benfica last year, with the Red Devils having a €20m clause to buy him back.
