Earlier on Monday, we covered a claim in Spain that Manchester United were planning on making a renewed effort to sign Frenkie de Jong.
The midfielder has been the priority of the Old Trafford club’s transfer window, but they have yet to convince him that swapping Barcelona for the north of England is a good idea, regardless of the fact that his former manager, Erik ten Hag, is in charge there.
De Telegraaf on Monday afternoon, relayed by SoccerNews, back up these claims, stating ‘that the offer that the English superpower recently made for the Dutch midfielder has expired’.
They explain this ‘can be seen as a clear signal’ from De Jong to Manchester United, as ‘he had time to think carefully about a possible move, but didn’t go for it’.
However, they add the Red Devils ‘do not want to give up’, and they then mention other reports that ‘a new offer is being prepared’, perhaps referring to what has been coming out of Spain earlier on in the day.
Either way, it appears rather clear that Frenkie de Jong isn’t overly keen on signing for Manchester United still, and whether that changes before the end of the transfer window remains to be seen.
