On Thursday we covered claims from Tuttosport that Joao Cancelo was ‘a step away’ from signing for Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola was behind the interest, and it was claimed a move should be completed in the next week.
Manchester United did get a mention but only as another interested club.
City’s move depended on getting Danilo out of the club, and we pointed out it seems a big ask to do that and sign Cancelo all within a week. It’s possible, just not quite the step away the Turin newspaper explained it as.
In their Friday edition, Tuttosport say a transfer is ‘almost certain’ to happen for Cancelo, and they go through a whole list of potential replacements, including Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier.
However, when it comes to the Portuguese fullback’s destination, it’s explained the Manchester clubs are the contenders.
Guardiola’s side aren’t given a higher standing than Manchester United, and now they’re just thrown in together.
The 25 year old played 34 matches for Juve last season at right back. It’s possible the Old Trafford club see him as an alternative to Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
