Sergiño Dest remains determined to stay at Barcelona this summer, despite an attempt by Manchester United to sign him.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who predict a ‘war of nerves’ is looming between the American and the Catalan giants.
The newspaper explains that Dest has understood the message he was sent this weekend when he was left out of the squad for the clash with Rayo Vallecano.
He ‘feels pressured’ and ‘urged to accept an offer’ to leave the Camp Nou but remains firm in his idea of not moving from Barcelona this summer.
He believes he can break into the team under Xavi and is comfortable, so has no intention of leaving, despite the interest from Manchester United.
They’ve been linked over the last week or so, with reports of a €20m bid being lodged and it even claimed yesterday that Erik ten Haag is confident Dest will accept a move to Old Trafford.
Mundo say otherwise, though, insisting that everything at the moment indicates there will be a ‘war of nerves’ between Dest and Barcelona until the end of the transfer window.
They do confirm that Manchester United are in the picture and label them the ‘main club in waiting’ but at the moment nothing is moving on that front.
Barcelona hope that the American’s need to play in order to not miss the World Cup in Qatar will make him leave and thus secure them much-welcomed transfer funds. For now, however, he is standing firm and refusing to go.
