Real Madrid are willing to ‘give facilities’ to get James Rodriguez out of the club this summer, with reports of interest from Manchester United.
That’s according to Sport, who cover reports from England that United are keen on signing the Colombian midfielder this summer.
Several claims from England this week indicated that Manchester United are close to signing Rodriguez after making it clear they are willing to pay £23m for his signature.
Madrid have reportedly indicated that is a price they would be willing to accept that amount, despite it being half of what they value him at.
Sport cover those today and provide no details about a potential bid from Manchester United but plenty of information about Rodriguez’s situation at the Bernabeu.
They explain that the midfielder has made it clear he wants to leave Madrid this summer as he knows he is not part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans.
Indeed, he asked the French manager not to consider him for his squads at the end of the season, and Madrid are happy to let him go as they consider him profitable.
The Spanish giants paid €80m for him in 2014 but his tally of two Champions League titles and two La Liga titles, plus the money they earned from his loan spell at Bayern Munich – €13m and €7.75m in wages – mean they consider him ‘profitable’.
Thus they are willing to ‘give facilities’ (in other words facilitate) to make a deal happen and ‘extinguish the relationship’ as soon as possible.
That would suggest Manchester United can get their man if they are interested, and potentially for a much lower fee than they would have had to pay previously.
Whether there is any interest in him at Old Trafford, though, remains to be seen. They are likely to build this summer but where and how a 29-year-old Rodriguez would fit in is debatable.
