This week’s edition of France Football has a look at some of the dramas which took place towards the end of the window.
Edinson Cavani gets the front cover, and the French magazine share what they present as their own information on the player’s move to Manchester United.
According to FF, the striker will earn €10m, after tax, plus a further €2m on bonuses for a one season contract at Old Trafford, with the Premier League club having the power to extend the deal by a further year.
They state that rather than it being the last minute idea some have portrayed it as, Manchester United actually made contact with Cavani ‘as early as January’, when it became clear he wouldn’t renew his contract with PSG.
These contacts and the ‘prospect of joining Man United’ were among the factors behind Cavani refusing to extend his deal with PSG to end the season, and that’s why he was missing from the Champions League final.
It’s worth noting that it was earlier reported elsewhere that Cavani’s relationship with the French club deteriorated when they priced him out of a January move to Atletico Madrid, and that’s why he didn’t extend.
Jadon Sancho gets a mention, with FF saying the ‘excessive confidence’ at Manchester United about signing the Borussia Dortmund player may have been behind the delay in getting a deal done for the Uruguayan.
Now Cavani is a Red Devil, it’s expected his first appearance could be against… PSG. So expect lots of comment and opinion from France in the coming weeks.
