Faouzi Ghoulam to Manchester United is a transfer claim which has been gaining some strength over the past few weeks.
Starting in Italy, stories about the Napoli fullback potentially moving to Old Trafford have also caught the attention of the English media and now there’s a constant stream of claims about the transfer.
On Saturday, TMW say Manchester United are ‘increasingly determined’ to sign Ghoulam and will pay his rescission clause to get a deal done in the summer window.
They don’t mention how much that clause is, but when we’ve covered it before the amount has been put at around £44m.
Ghoulam, 27 years of age, would be seen as the long term solution for Jose Mourinho’s left back problem, and his signing would likely see Luke Shaw leave the club.
But there must be at least mild concerns over Ghoulam’s fitness. The Algerian has only played 11 Serie A games this season, missing two big chunks of time due to a cruciate injury and then a fractured kneecap.
He last played in January and surely Manchester United would need the left back to prove himself again between now and the end of the season.
Napoli, say TMW, have earmarked Alex Grimaldo from Benfica, something which has been reported in Portugal for some time.
